‘EastEnders’ fans are feeling very emotional about this Grant and Tiffany reunion

To long-time EastEnders fans, Grant and Tiffany Mitchell were among the soap’s all-time favourite couples.

Their tempestuous relationship was at the centre of several major storylines in the mid-1990s, and some 22 million people tuned in to the New Years Eve episode in 1998 that saw Tiffany (Martine McCutcheon) die in front of Grant’s (Ross Kemp) very eyes after a car accident.

Since then, both actors’ careers have diverged: McCutcheon initially found brief pop fame and landed the romantic lead in Love Actually, before things started going quiet for her, while Kemp earned at times grudging acclaim for presenting his Ross Kemp Extreme World series on Sky.

Yesterday was an emotional one for the soap’s fans when Kemp and McCutcheon were reunited on screen for the first time in 18 years on Loose Women.

Speaking about her time working opposite Kemp on EastEnders, McCutcheon said:

“For me it was just some of the best times ever. There was this code between us that we had each other’s back. I was learning so much. I was so young – I was 18.

“You’re going through life and Ross watched me grow up as well. We just always had each other’s backs, always looked after each other, and we saw so much while we were there. It was such an intense time.”

Meanwhile, Kemp said: “You spend more time with your fake family than you do with your real family. And I think that’s why some of the acting sometimes is so natural and immediate. You have an alternative family.”
