Netflix viewers have claimed they are “unable to sleep” after watching the service’s new drama, You.
The psychological thriller series, which is based on the Caroline Kepnes novel of the same name, has had Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl fans from the get-go – mostly because of the casting.
It has Shay Mitchell, aka: Emily Fields. And Penn Bagdley, better known to Gossip Girl fans as Dan Humphrey.
The show, which was added to the streaming service on Stephen’s Day, tells the story of Joe, a “brilliant bookstore manager”, who crosses paths with an aspiring writer named Beck one day – and he’s instantly smitten.
Things take a dark turn, as Joe’s feelings towards Beck quickly move from a seemingly innocent crush to a nerve-shredding and nail-biting obsession.
He goes to drastic lengths to get the most intimate details about her, ready to take out any obstacle in his way – even a person, if need be.
The eerie series explores the dangers of social media, with an extremely heavy emphasis on the lack of privacy in the digital world.
Viewers have taken to Twitter to share their reactions to the series, with many claiming it left them “paranoid” and “unable to sleep”.
