Filming starts in five weeks.

If you were looking for a reason to be simultaneously distraught and delighted today, look no further than Ricky Gervais’s Twitter page.

Because he’s just announced that the script for season two of After Life is complete – and filming starts very soon indeed.

The comedian and writer dropped the happy (and deathly sad, have you seen that show?) news on social media today, saying that he had finished writing the script for the eagerly anticipated second season of the Netflix series.

Gervais confirmed that there would be a second season of the show earlier this year following the overwhelmingly positive response from fans and critics alike.

“I have never had a reaction like this before,” he said at the time.

“It’s been insane. And heartwarming. But now I have to make sure the second season is even better so I’ll probably have to work much harder than usual. Annoying really.”

In case you’ve never seen the show, After Life revolves around Tony (played by Gervais), who seemingly had a perfect life.

But when his wife Lisa dies, Tony changes. After contemplating taking his own life, he decides instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes.

The second season of the show will consist of six episodes and will launch in 2020.

Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer for Netflix said: “After Life has moved audiences from laughter to tears around the world and we are thrilled to announce that Ricky Gervais will be back with a second season on Netflix.

“We are so proud to play host to Ricky’s brilliant stand up comedy, specials, original films and series and join in the joy of the fans with his latest hit.”

Extremely excited for this one, to be honest.
