The theory about Ron and Hermione that is breaking the hearts of Harry Potter fans

Say it’s not so!

It’s been eight years since the franchise came to an end with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

And there’s been no shortage of fan theories over the years.

But there’s a new one doing the rounds – this time, about Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger’s relationship – that is breaking fans’ hearts.

Journalist Jennifer Wright sparked a debate amongst Harry Potter fans when she revealed she was “70 per cent sure” that Ron and Hermione would have gotten a divorce by now.

“They have nothing in common besides the war. Their relationship is a daily reminder of everyone and everything they lost,” she explained.

“In a kinder world, Ron and Hermione would send each other Christmas cards and hang out once or twice a year when they were in the same town. Mostly they’d talk s**t about Snape.”

“Anyhow, I think ‘we’re both traumatized’ is a terrible reason to get married at 18. I can see how it happens, but think Hermione would be smart enough to rethink this later.”

And while some fans agreed with the sentiment, others admitted they thought Ron and Hermione could “balance each other really well.”

But it turns out that J.K. Rowling previously admitted she thought the relationship between the two characters may have been a bit of a mistake.

In an interview with Wonderland back in 2014, she said that she had written the relationship “as a form of wish fulfillment.”

“That’s how it was conceived, really,” she said [via Variety].”For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron.”
