An Irish nanny who is currently being held in the US on charges of inflicting fatal injuries to a one-year-old baby girl remains in prison after she failed to raise a bail of €375,000.
The Irish Daily Star reports that Aisling McCarthy Brady, who is originally from Cavan, remains in custody at the Framingham correctional institution in Massachusetts.
“Our records show she hasn’t made bail – and if she wants to secure release directly from prison, bail in the full cash amount is required,” said a spokesperson for the institution.
“Alternatively, the inmate may use a bail bondsman but that can only be done through the courts,” the spokesperson added.
Ms McCarthy Brady appeared before a court last week on charges of assault and battery to one-year-old Rehma Sabir, who later died in hospital as a result of her injuries.
The nanny, who could face a murder charge pending post-mortem results, has denied that she caused any harm to the child who was left in her care. Ms McCarthy Brady’s lawyer has also said that there are factors in the case which “just don’t add up.”
If Ms McCarthy Brady does manage to post bail, she can have no contact with the family of the child and no contact with any children under the age of 10. She will also be ineligible to engage in employment, volunteer work and she will not be able to work with children.
Other conditions of her bail include that she must surrender her passport, check in with probation officers and remain under house arrest with GPS monitoring until her next court appearance on February 22nd.

The incident took place near Boston in the United States
It is being alleged that Ms McCarthy Brady caused severe injuries to Rehma Sabir on Monday, January 14th. Police were called to the home of the family where they found the child breathing but unconscious. The child was immediately rushed to the children’s hospital in Boston where she was found to be suffering from haemorrhaging of the eyes and swelling of the brain. Doctors noted that there were also numerous older bone fractures to the child that were still in the process of healing.
“I have gone through the police report line by line, over and over again. I can’t sleep, thinking about this. Things just don’t add up,” said Melinda Thompson, Ms McCarthy Brady’s lawyer.
“I believe Aisling Brady never harmed that child,” she added.
