Doireann Garrihy has opened up about the 'most challenging part of postpartum' while explaining why she's been 'dodging' questions on the topic.
Garrihy is navigating motherhood after she welcomed her newborn Rosie to the world a few weeks ago.
The presenter took to social media to open up about what she believed to be the 'most challenging part of postpartum'.
For a lot of mums out there, it won't come as a surprise that Doireann has been struggling with breastfeeding her little girl.
Doireann admitted to being reluctant to make it known publicly that she was breastfeeding, because nothing could have prepared her for 'the mixed messaging and overall sentiment surrounding breastfeeding'.
She went on to explain that she wouldn't want to add to the stress new mums experience.
Doireann shared that breastfeeding her daughter has really taken its toll on her.
"I have found it to be hands down the most challenging part of postpartum – mentally, physically, emotionally, SOCIETALLY. The list goes on," she explained.
"Anyway, I am breastfeeding and pumping, and I am wrecked but taking each day as it comes.
Doireann added that she has no specific plan in place.
"I didn’t have a birth plan, and I certainly don’t have a feeding plan," she revealed.
Doireann also jokingly explained her sleeping pattern and how she rationalises being awake at certain hours.
"Here’s how I look at the nights. 2-5 am: the trenches," she joked.
"Anything pre 2 am: I could easily be still awake watching TikToks or binging a series on Netflix, I can do this.
"Anything post 5 am: People are getting up at this time for their commute or to go to the gym…Again, I can do this.
"Jokes aside, some nights are much tougher than others… but it’s unbelievable how much you can actually power through the day on so little sleep when you have to. Women are just SENSATIONAL," Doireann concluded.
