According to a new study mothers who breastfeed their children reduce their own risk of obesity in later life.
A study published in the International Journal of Obesity, and reported by the Irish Daily Star this morning, surveyed over seven hundred thousand post-menopausal women.
While it did find that the more children a woman has the heavier she is likely to be, the study also found that those women who breastfeed have a lower Body Mass Index (BMI) regardless of the number of children she has.
In fact the research revealed that for every six months a woman breastfeeds her BMI is reduced by one per cent.
This research is part of the ‘Million Women Study’ and goes to prove that the health benefits of breastfeeding not only concerns the baby but the mother too.
