Irish mum loses cancer battle just weeks after husband passes away

Absolutely heartbreaking.

An Irish mum who was battling cancer has tragically passed away just weeks after losing her husband.

Mum-of-three Karen Stewart passed away peacefully on Friday after her third fight with cancer.

Her partner, Ed, lost his fight with terminal pancreatic cancer in August, three months after he was diagnosed.

In a heartbreaking scenario, Karen (36) and Ed (42) Stewart, the parents of Keeva (10), Finn (8) and Erin (4), were both diagnosed with incurable cancer earlier this year.

Family and friends have now set up a GoFundMe to help support the couple’s three kids.

Family friend Maureen O’ Halloran posted on the fundraiser:

“It is with great sadness that I update you to let you all know that Sadly Karen Nicholson Stewart passed away peacefully at her mum’s home on Friday 20th October 2017 just before 6pm.

“Karen was surrounded by her children and her amazing family.

“Karen can finally rest in peace and join her wonderful husband Ed who passed away on the 4th August 2017.

“They were an amazing couple devoted to each other and their children.

“I made a promise to Karen in early September that I would keep this fund going for her children and that is what I intend to do until we reach the goal.”

The page has so far raised more than €40,000 of their €100,000 goal.
