The founder of the Jack and Jill foundation, Jonathan Irwin, has spoken out and revealed that the children’s charity is being exploited by credit card fraudsters.
Speaking to RTE’s Morning Ireland programme this morning, Jonathan said that the charity has been forced to return €132,000 in much-needed donations over the last 15 months. Apparently these were fraudulent donations made by scammers trying to test their latest credit card fraud.
Mr Irwin revealed that the Jack and Jill Foundation was receiving donations as small as two cents in sudden bursts from around the world. Later the charity realised that the money was acting as a test by fraudsters so they could see how quickly they could take money from people’s credit card accounts.
The charity also received fake donations as high as €19,000 from places close to home like Italy and Luxembourg and as far afield as Korea.

“From our point of view €132,000 is almost the figure we pay out every month for nurisng care for 300 babies we are nursing all over Ireland, it’s just very cynical... and we’ve had to do over a thousand transactions backwards,” said Mr Irwin.
Mr Irwin warned people to check their credit cards and back accounts as much as possible and to be aware of any suspicious activity that they may discover. He also said that the Jack and Jill Foundation will now implement a better security system in order to protect their accounts against fraudsters.
