‘Being a mum to James has given me the ability to become who I always was and really am. My story is certainly not how I had pictured my life turning out. There have been surprises around every corner and life lessons at every turn.’
So says well-known Irish model and columnist Alison Canavan, in advance of the national tour of her ‘0 To Toddler’ roadshow.
Canavan, who has spoken honestly about her struggle with postnatal depression following the birth of her son, has turned her attentions from the jet-set world of high fashion to researching and writing about parenting. Now, she’s taking what she’s learned and bringing it on tour across the country.
The 0 To Toddler show is about health and wellbeing for parent and baby from the inside out. Says Alison; ‘We often hear that our health is our wealth but these days there is so much conflicting information out there. As a new parent you want to do everything right and give your baby the best possible start. It’s also important to look after yourself as well as you’ll need all your energy when your new baby arrives.’
The show aims to guide parents through those early days and provide helpful information for the many decisions you have to make as a new parent. Fitness, nutrition and mental health will be some of the key focus areas of the shows, with expert speakers on hand including ‘sleep doctor’ Niamh O’Reilly, child development expert Fiona O’Farrell and Neuorological Development Therapist Ollwyn Moran amongst others. There will also be an trade exhibition from Irish ‘mumpreneurs’, kids clubs, and special celebrity guests at every show.
The tour has six stop-off points across the country:
Longwalk SC, Dundalk, 20/21st July
Donaghmede SC, 27/28th July
Laois SC, 3/4th August
Parkway SC, Limerick, 10/11th August
