A new study has revealed that more than one in every ten expectant mothers in Ireland smoke throughout the duration of their pregnancy.

The results were revealed as part of the ‘Growing up in Ireland’ study.

The report shows that women who undergo high levels of stress are more than likely to continue smoking.

It also revealed that economic factors also play a part in the results.

The news however does show a decrease in the number of women in Ireland who smoke during pregnancy, as the figure was once one in every four women.

It dropped from 28% of women in 1999 to 17% in 2007.
