It was 2011 when parenting blogger Jill Smokler noticed a trend on her blog.
The people who left comments on Scary Mommy’s Facebook page tended to be quite reserved, but the people who commented anonymously were honest, very honest, brutally honest in fact.
So, Smokler set up a section on the blog, the Scary Mommy Confessional. It is here that people write up their own secret confessions, sans username.
Smokler wrote for the Huffington Post: “That way, people were free to say exactly what they wanted to say, without fearing judgment or negative repercussions.
"The reaction to the Confessional blew my mind, my readers had so much more to say than I could have ever predicted, and each confession was an opportunity to kiss some stress goodbye.”
