’13 hours later…’ The importance of this 16-year-old’s hair transformation

An important reminder.

‘Mental health affects people of all ages’.

That was the message hairdresser Kayley Olsson had for her followers this week.

Kayley took to Facebook this week to share the story of a very special appointment.

“Today I had one of the hardest experiences with my client who I am keeping anonymous,” she said in her post.

“I had a 16-year-old girl come in, who has been dealing with severe depression for a few years now.

“She got to the point where she felt so down and so worthless she couldn’t even brush her hair. She told me she only got up to use the bathroom.”

The hairdresser’s post has been liked by over 180,000 people who were all touched by what happened next.

“She has her school pictures today. When she walked in she told us to just cut it all off, she couldn’t deal with the pain of combing it all out. She called herself worthless for it.

“After being here for eight hours yesterday and five hours today, we finally made this beautiful girl smile and feel like she IS worth something.

“Her last words to me were, ‘I will actually smile for my school pictures today, you made me feel like me again’.”

Kayley’s post also served as a reminder to everyone that mental health can be a problem for everyone despite their age.

“Mental health is a thing, it affects people all around the world and of all ages.”
