6 ways you can stay fit if you NEVER leave the office

Niamh Maher

Step away from the desk.

Do you sometimes feel like you live at the office? A busy work life can certainly hinder your health and fitness goals. Although we all have the BEST intentions, sometimes at the end of the day all we want is to have a glass of vino and some Reese’s peanut butter cups. Knackered.

Have no fear… the Her team are here to help, we’ve compiled a list of simple things you can do to stay fit while at the office.

  • Run at lunchtime: We all get a lunch break, sometimes the best thing you can do is get out and get some fresh air. Working up a sweat can give you energy and it will virtually eliminate the mid-afternoon slump. The only problem is showering… if you don’t have a shower in the office be prepared for disgruntled colleagues.

  • Take the stairs: Leave that lift alone! It’s just filled with awkward conversation anyway, take the stairs and you’ll feel heaps better. If your office is on the 8th floor, all the better.

  • Work that commute: You know what… parking is a f**king nightmare. Leave the car at home, stick those earphones in and walk proud.

  • Build your own desktop gym: A few resistance bands and some light hand weights and hey presto! If you have any down time throw in a few reps and watch those bad boy biceps grow.

  • Set up a weekly Yoga session: You don’t necessarily need a Yogi in the office but find some people who have a like-minded love for health and fitness, next step find a local studio and set up a regular class time. You’d be surprised at how many other people are looking for the same thing.

  • Walk around the office: Instead of phoning Maeve from two desks over, get up and walk to her desk. Try and get yourself up and about every hour even if it’s just a quick lap. It’s the little things that make all the difference.

And the biggest tip we can give you is going home and getting some actual exercise in, the office will be there tomorrow.
