6 ways to get fit and active… when you just don’t have time to exercise

Hello, fitness buzz!

Her

Brought to you by new Avonmore Balance – helps put back in what life takes out.

We tend to prioritise everything else at the expense of our own well-being – 24 hours in a day isn’t nearly long enough to fit in work, family, exercise, and play.

Between all the long days at the office, socialising, and an endless list of other commitments, maintaining a regular fitness plan can sometimes feel pretty impossible.

Life gets in the way and if you feel like you’ve dropped the ball and neglected your fitness, here are six key ways to bring more balance to your life by incorporating exercise into your packed schedule… Hello, fitness buzz!

1. Exercise at work

A full day at the office can make exercising seem impossible but make gains from your very own desk and tone your arms, abs, and bum without hitting up the gym.

Yup, your job is no longer a reason not to exercise – so why not try…

Stretch and straighten

While sitting, lift your hands over your head and interlace you fingers with palms facing up. Lean to one side and hold the position for a few breaths. Then, straighten and stretch to the other side.

Do this 15 times a day and you’ll feel the stretch.

2. Exercise with someone

We’ve heard it before but it’s true what they say, there is strength in numbers. Having an exercise buddy can help you achieve your fitness goals and maintain the motivation your busy lifestyle often zaps. An exercise buddy will keep you accountable and on track for fitness greatness and you’ll have loads of fun.

Vigorous exercise doesn’t need to be done every day (every second or third day is fine) so why not sign up to that spin class you’ve been putting off? Working this in two or three times a week works wonders for your health and now your exercise buddy is on board, you’ve no excuse.

3. Bike to work

Many of us blame long hours in the office on our lack of exercise – we are exhausted after working all day and by the time we leave our places of work the last thing we want to do is get out and exercise. But there is an easy solution – take your bike to work.

You’ll probably get there faster than the bus and you’ll exercise without having to create extra time you just don’t have. Cycling has huge benefits… so this could be one of the best decisions you ever make.

4. Active dates

When most of us think of date nights, we usually imagine dinner and cocktails. And while this can be relaxing, it can also get a bit monotonous after a while. So instead of your usual restaurant and bar combo, why not switch things up?

Something as simple as going hiking for the afternoon and exploring all the natural beauty we’ve been blessed with here in Ireland can make for a stand-out, memorable day-time date.

5. Embrace your inner child

Spend quality time with the younger loved ones in your life and as a reward, fit much-needed exercise into your day. It doesn’t matter what you do, running around after kids is guaranteed to keep you fit. Whether you have your own children or nieces and nephews, all kids love to run around and have fun.

So why not hit the playground this weekend?

6. YouTube will be your new best friend

It’s ridiculously easy to hack your fitness using online tutorials from your favourite vloggers. And it’s also a totally free way to spice up a new exercise regime if you feel it’s getting a bit dull.

Maybe you’ve always fancied learning the cha-cha? Or perhaps yoga tickles your fancy but you’ve yet to actually make it to a class. Alternatively, there are a load of videos too that show you how to use your own body weight to tone up in the comfort of your living room.

So whatever you think is going to help you to get moving – YouTube is a great place to start.

Making exercise a habit requires you to have the right mind set and smart approach. A workout in the middle of your day is great for both your health and your career. For the times when you can’t get away from the office long enough for a hardcore gym session, follow the above tips to make it part of your day. Commit to making exercise a priority in your life and achieve that all-important balance you’ve been craving.

Life can be challenging.
