There’s a gross reason why you shouldn’t use the air con in a hotel room

This changes everything.

When it comes to a hotel room, you tend not to focus on the possibilities of germs lingering about the place.

But, unfortunately, chances are there is going to be a certain amount, in places like bed sheets, if they haven’t been washed properly, shower curtains and we found out most recently that hairdryers are pretty dirty too.

One thing we had never thought about when it comes to germs and our lovely hotel rooms is the air conditioning. Turns out it’s actually pretty mank.

A former hotel owner told Bustle that air con machines are breeding grounds for germs because they aren’t cleaned regularly, or sometimes at all.

When you turn on the machine, those germs get pushed into the room and eventually into your lungs.

He said, “One often overlooked source of … germs is the HVAC unit in the room. If hotel staff fails to clean the filters (or at least clean the top visible portion), simply turning on the unit can cause these particles to fill your room and your lungs.”
