We’ve all fallen victim to the very clever product placement of putting yummy chocolate bars and sweets beside the checkout.

No matter how much willpower you have, it takes serious control to stop yourself from buying that Moro that you’ve being drooling over while the slow coach in front pays for her weekly shop, so Tesco has decided to remove temptation and discontinue such displays in an effort to encourage customers to make healthier choices when shopping.

The unprecedented move was confirmed by Tesco Ireland chief executive Phil J Clarke, who said that customers had “made it clear to us that removing sweets and chocolates from checkouts will help them to make healthier choices”.

According to The Irish Times, the displays will be removed from tomorrow across all 146 Irish stores.
