The number of people suffering from burnout is rising at an alarming rate, but being aware of the symptoms could help limit the cases.
The unbearable heavy feeling of burnout can impact you both physically and mentally.
Symptoms can range from mild to extreme with some people needing to be signed off from work to recover.
There's no shame in being burnt out as it's something that can affect millions of people around the world. Being kind to yourself during this already difficult time is so essential.
But being aware of the main symptoms is so important because it can help you combat the issues before things get worse.
Those who have burnout will suffer from physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion. Those who are suffering from it will often struggle to engage in their day-to-day activities and will lose interest in stuff they once cared about.
You will also find yourself losing interest in socialising and may step back from your social circles.
One of the main emotions those with burnout will feel is a sense of hopelessness, but they'll also struggle with physical symptoms too.
Those may have headaches, stomach pain, fatigue, frequent illness, and changes in their appetite, as well as their sleep.
Burnout may feel extremely overwhelming and intense, but it's important to remember that you can move past it. It's something many of us will experience at one stage of our lives, but you need to seek support rather than isolating yourself.
Reaching out to your loved ones for support is something you need to do, no matter how hopeless you feel.
Another thing that helps is stepping back and finding value in things outside of your work. Many people who feel burnt out will often work overtime and fail to take time off. They stop prioritising their lifestyle and health, which is why burnout happens so easily.
So many of us fail to realise how important it is to unwind and take a break until we reach a stage of burnout that knocks us for six.
Prioritising sleep, eating well, exercising, and leaning on your loved ones are so important to avoid burnout. Taking time off and reframing your work/life balance will make a major difference because this is usually off-scale when someone is burnt out.
Burnout is avoidable if we start putting ourselves first and giving ourselves a little TLC.
