Drinking Tea Reduces Risk of Non-Cardiovascular Death

As if we need more of an excuse for a cuppa...

Rebecca McKnight

New research has found that drinking tea can reduce your risk of dying from causes unrelated to the heart by a quarter.

The study, presented at the European Society for Cardiology, found that tea drinkers are more physically active (it increased with the number of cups per day) and have a better cardiovascular risk profile than non-tea drinkers.

Compared to coffee consumers, people who opt for tea were found to have lower blood pressure and be less likely to smoke which affected the findings.

Speaking about the results, Professor Nicolas Danchin said: “I think that you could fairly honestly recommend tea drinking rather than coffee drinking and even rather than not drinking anything at all.”

The study did not specify what type of tea or how it was served but did take into account how many cups people consumed on a daily basis.

Anyone sticking the kettle on?
