The FSAI has revealed that an adult has died with a confirmed case of listeria infection.
The news comes after a listeria outbreak was detected in Ireland, with nine cases of listeriosis being confirmed on July 23rd.
HSE's Health Protection Surveillance Centre has launched an investigation following the outbreak.
Over 200 different ready-made meals and side dishes have been recalled due to the possible presence of a bacterium called Listeria monocytogenes.
The public has been urged to check if they have any affected products at home and to dispose of them immediately.
The HPSC said that nine confirmed cases of listeria had been identified as of yesterday.
The FSAI recalled the meals which are made and produced by Ballymaguire Foods in Dublin.
The FSAI stated:
"A National Outbreak Control Team is currently investigating an extensive outbreak of listeriosis. A voluntary precautionary food recall of ready-to-heat meals is underway due to a link with the outbreak.
"Nine confirmed cases of listeriosis have been identified as of 22 July 2025. The HSE Health Protection Surveillance Centre has been notified of and is investigating the death of an adult with confirmed listeriosis.

Listeriosis is a severe disease which is caused by the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. Consuming contaminated food is the main way people contract listeriosis.
The main signs of listeriosis include:
Mild symptoms can be treated with rest and fluids at home, but those who are in high-risk groups may need to be hospitalised.
Most people will suffer from mild symptoms that will go away after a few days, but listeriosis can be more serious in higher-risk groups.
This includes people who are pregnant and newborn babies. According to medical experts, there is a risk of miscarriage or stillbirth if you get listeriosis when pregnant.
Anyone with a condition that weakens their immune system is also at a higher risk.
People having treatment that weakens their immune system, such as chemotherapy or steroid tablets, are also at risk of having more serious problems if they contract listeriosis.
The elderly are also at higher risk of getting seriously ill from listeriosis. This risk increases with age.
More severe side effects include septicaemia and meningitis.
You should seek urgent medical attention if you're in a high-risk group and believe you have listeriosis.
