Hell is cooking with sugar.

Making delicious treats should be about having fun, experimenting, throwing a load of things together in a pan and seeing what happens. This is not what is required of sugar cooking. It begs for precision, perfect timings, and a strict set of ingredients. Deviate from the recipe and you will fail. Stir something a little too long and you will fail. Do your best and you will, unfortunately, fail. Or at least, I did when I was trying to make honeycomb. An impossible task that has never been successfully completed by anybody (shush), making homemade honeycomb is an anxiety inducing, incredibly difficult experience. For this week's Kitchen Crusade, I did my utmost to make some tasty honeycomb that could then be gingerly sprinkled atop some tastier Dalgona coffee. The latest food trend that's been taking over TikTok, I had presumed that at the very least, I would nail the coffee. It's just whisking liquids. How hard could it be? Turns out, quite. You can check out some of my intense failures above, or you can follow the below recipe (and actually use the right ingredients) to create your own homemade honeycomb. ... Or you could just pick up a Cadbury's Crunchy in the shop. Same thing. Homemade honeycomb  You'll need:

• 200g caster sugar
• 5 tbsp golden syrup
• 2 tsp of bicarbonate of soda OR baking soda (the former works better, I have since learned)

And here's how to make it: 1. Mix the caster sugar and syrup in a pan over a low heat until all of the sugar has dissolved. Do not let the mix bubble. 2. Once the sugar is completely dissolved, turn up the heat and bring to a slight simmer until a caramel has formed. Quickly add the bicarbonate of soda, take off the heat, and stir as fast as you can. 3. Bubbles should begin forming at this point. Quickly tip the mixture into a greased pan. 4. Leave to cool for about an hour before breaking into tasty pieces with a knife. Dalgona coffee You'll need:

• 1 tbsp instant coffee
• 1 tbsp sugar
• 1 tbsp hot water
• Cup of milk

And here's how to make it: 1. Whisk the coffee, sugar, and hot water in a bowl until it becomes whipped enough to hold over your head. 2. Pour the mixture on top of a glass of chilled milk. 3. Enjoy. You can check out the new episode of Kitchen Crusade over on Her's IGTV here.
