Give social smoking the kick for good! Because it’s crazy bad for you

Stop it, stop it right now.

We’ve all been there. You’re on a night out with all your friends, you’re having a great time chatting and laughing and then someone suggests you go to the smoking area. You don’t want to be alone so you decide to go too, maybe you’ll even have a little cigarette when you’re there and …BOOM, before you know it you’re half a box deep and you wake up the next morning with a mouth like an ashtray.

You might assume the odd social smoke does no harm- but it does. It REALLY does. From bad breath to stained teeth and a whole host of other health issues.

Still not convinced? Here are just a few reasons you need to nip your habit in the bud right now.

You stink

No, seriously! Non-smokers can smell a smoker a mile off, or at the very least from across a room. Smoke lingers in your hair, clothes and even on your skin for hours after your last cig. Ditch the little white sticks and you’ll have nothing to worry about.

Food is just not the same

Smokers also experience a dulling of their senses; smell and taste, in particular, take a massive hit. Smokers can’t appreciate the taste of food as intensely as they did before smoking. Just imagine how great your takeaway curry would taste after a few weeks smoke-free.

Is that a wrinkle I see?

Yup, you guessed it. Your odd social smoke could be the reason you’re getting those crows feet around your eyes. Smoking leads to biochemical changes in the body that speed up the ageing process. It also deprives the living skin tissue of oxygen by causing constriction of the blood vessel. Lovely!

You’re more open to infections

We all know the long-term effects smoking can have, increased risk of heart disease, lung disease, stroke, cancer, emphysema, the list goes on and on. But did you know that social smoking can also heighten your risk of catching everyday infections? The tiny hairs that line your respiratory tract (cilia) can not properly fight infection when they’re paralysed by smoke. Which is precisely why smokers catch more colds.

Simple things become a lot harder

If you can’t climb a flight of stairs without losing your breath then something is seriously wrong. According to research, over time, smokers lose the ability to take part in simple exercises like jogging or football because their heart and lungs have to work harder. Say goodbye to those #FitFam posts.

It’s really expensive to smoke

Eh hello? Have you seen the price of cigarettes recently? Just imagine you saved all that money up for one year and spent it on a holiday? Nothing would beat that feeling of achievement.
