Today is officially the sickest day of the year with more people suffering from colds and flu than at any other time in the other 11 months.
And believe it or not, the weather is not to blame! Medical experts who have dubbed today Flu Monday have revealed that Valentine’s Day is the reason most of us feel under the weather.
GP Dr Rob Hicks said that the renewed contact with each other after a month of January detoxing can make people very vunerable to germs.
He said: “We tend to cut back in January — socialising less and pursuing health drives such as eating healthily, giving our bodies a chance to recuperate after the over-indulgence of Christmas.

“When the month’s over, many start socialising once more — around Valentine’s Day in particular. With more socialising comes closer contact with others, which is when germs can spread easily through coughing, sneezing, and physical contact."
A study conducted by Kleenex found that more than 2,000 people “retoxed” over the weekend and that most of us have gone back to our pre-January ways – except for those of us who have given up something for Lent of course!
Dr Hicks added that after a month of detoxing, returning to old habits can be a “shock to our system”.
