Have you ever felt so happy that your heart feels like it might burst?
Well, it turns out it's a legitimate medical reaction that can cause breathlessness and chest pains.
According to
WIRED, a study was undertaken by The University of Zurich that looked at a reaction called takotsubo cardiomyopathy which is a condition that caused the left ventricle of the heart to temporarily weaken.
Usually, it's caused by stress, anger or fear but the study found that one in twenty cases are caused by feelings of joy.
According to the study, joyful incidents that can cause this reaction include weddings, birthday parties and winning a jackpot.
Dr Jelena Ghadri worked on the study: "We've shown that the triggers for takotsubo syndrome can be more varied than previously thought. A takotsubo syndrome patient is no longer the classic 'broken-hearted' patient, and the disease can be preceded by positive emotions too."
However, the condition does go away after a certain amount of time and treatment.
