You’re a lover of your morning cuppa but you wish it had an extra health benefit…
Your wish has come true, read on…
Mike O’Donnell is a fitness trainer, coach and healthy eating advocate. His programmes are based on years of research, experience and getting people results. His blog, The IF Life, is five years old and is a place to help people “break free from complicated solutions”.
Mike’s simple solution that has intrigued is his suggestion to add a little coconut oil to your cup of coffee as a way to “power up” and get ready for the day ahead.
The magic of coconut oil?
Coconut oil is mostly made up of MCTs (medium-chain triglycerides).
The main advantages of MCTs include:
MCTs are absorbed quickly by the body and are quicker to use for immediate energy.
MCTs enhance ketone production which have therapeutic and nitrogen retention advantages.
MCT rich diets have been shown to increase energy expenditure and metabolic rates, always good news.
MCT rich diets are shown to better reduce hunger and suppress appetite.
These are especially powerful advantages when integrated into the intermittent fasting lifestyle.
Mike’s verdict?
“The potential to not only have more immediate and stable (not anxiety driven) energy but also control hunger/appetite better (reducing rebound eating tendencies), makes it a big plus in my book for a lasting lean lifestyle plan.”
So, how to go about it?
Put your coconut oil in a cup (2 rough tablespoons for me, but see below on starting with less at first).
Add in your hot coffee or espresso. Tea is also an option.
Sip and enjoy your new found energy. Sounds sweet to us…
