HRT is typically used to help with menopause symptoms. It can help with hot flushes, night sweats, sleep problems, anxiety, low mood, and vaginal dryness.
Speaking about her personal experience with HRT, Thomas explained that she stopped using it after just six months, experiencing several side effects.
The presenter said it really affected her libido and energy, as well as her sleep.
"I wasn’t sleeping. I was waking up at 2.50am, 2.56am, 5.57am... HRT didn’t really give me the energy. I still wasn’t sleeping. I came off it."
She said she's often "in a heightened and constant state of stress" but decided that coming off HRT was the right decision for her.
"I can operate. I have two kids. I’ve got four different jobs. I can keep going. I can get up at five o’clock in the morning. I can do a live radio show for three hours.
"I can drive to Roscommon and do a day’s filming. I can put my children to bed. I can lie down with them. I can get up, and I can go to London the next day. I can do Pure Results [her fitness bootcamp] on the weekends," she added.
In an interview with the Irish Independent, the Q102 radio presenter said: "It didn’t give me what I thought. I thought I was going to feel a million dollars after this. I thought I was going to be hopping into the bed with my husband."
