Porridge is a great start to the day
It is also tasty and convenient way of making an important contribution towards our daily vitamin, mineral, wholegrain and fibre needs.
Throughout the day, make sure you have plenty of healthy snacks on hand to help boost energy levels and to avoid temptation. Fresh fruit, seed mixes, low fat yoghurts and Kellogg’s Special K Mini Breaks (99 calories per bag) are great options.
With the 2013 party season almost upon us, Kellogg’s Special K nutritionist Dr Alexa Hoyland recommends having a healthy meal, yet filling, meal before you hit the tiles.
“Drinking on an empty stomach will lead to a quick rise in blood alcohol level and its consequent effects. So be sure to eat something before heading out with the girls. Include wholemeal or wholegrain varieties of carbohydrates, like whole wheat pasta, cous cous or brown rice to keep you going all evening”
Alexa also advises that it’s all about “damage limitation” as we gear up for the 2013 party season.
“Drink a glass of water now and then during the evening and plenty before you go to bed. If you haven’t made that cocktail yourself, you have no idea of its alcohol content! Assume that each glass has at least two units, which equals double the hangover! “
