To many students out there going through exams, sometimes it’s hard to forget to look after yourself and your mind.
Like most stress at exam time, the feeling of not being in control can be incredibly tough on the mind and we can trouble ourself with thoughts swirling around and leaving us feeling panicked.
Here are our top tips for dealing with exam stress.
Avoid last minute cramming
At this stage, you’re only adding extra stress onto your plate that you don’t need. Take deep breaths and think back on the stuff that you do know and can write about.
Prepare yourself
Make sure you know exactly what time your exam starts and get there in time. Keep calm and plan ahead. There’s nothing worse than trying to rush into an exam hall and stumbling to your seat. Go to the toilet beforehand and make sure you have all the pens you need.
Eat well and keep hydrated
Keep the fridge stocked with healthy snacks and make sure to carry a bottle of water in with you to the exam centre. Eat well-balanced meals in the evenings. Foods that are high in omega 3 are great for the brain.
Get some fresh air
During your exams you may feel like you should spend your evenings inside and hitting the books, but it’s vitally important to take some time to exercise and get some air. Not only will this clear your mind but will also give you a better night’s sleep.
Make sure you get plenty of rest
After a long day of tackling exams, your mind needs to wind down and relax before the next challenge.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help
If after your exam you feel a bit overwhelmed, don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help. Here’s who you can contact for support.
Don’t forget to think beyond the exams
Right now it may seem like it will never end and it’s a long time coming, but try to remember that the Leaving Cert and Junior Cert is not the end of the world. There is life after the exams.
