Add us as a preferred source on Google »It's that time of year when everyone is coughing and sniffling. We're pretty fed up with feeling under the weather but there is one festive drink that may help us feel somewhat better.
As helpful as cough bottles and over-the-counter medicines are, sometimes a good old-fashioned remedy really does the trick.
For years, our relatives have told us to sip on a hot whiskey to relieve our cold and flu symptoms, but there's another Christmas beverage that will do the job.
According to some reports, mulled wine can help ward off those dreaded winter colds and flu.
According to Dr. Deborah Lee, mulled wine is mainly made up of red wine which is packed full of antioxidants.
It also contains polyphenols and flavonoids which boost your immune system.
Dr. Lee explained, "Flavonoids have antiviral properties, which means they can help build up your immune system and, in theory, keep those winter colds at bay."
The citrus fruit included in the mulled wine helps boost your Vitamin C and the spices also have antiviral powers.
Not only is it a delicious festive drink, but if it's going to help us during cold and flu season then we're happy.
As well helping you feel better when you're under the weather, but mulled wine can also improve your skin.
It includes the chemical resveratrol which contributes to younger-looking skin.
Dr. Lee added, "It triggers collagen production, which improves the skin’s elasticity, and its anti-inflammatory properties can relieve inflammation. All have a positive effect on maintaining a youthful appearance."
