Research has shown that drinking wine, a glass or two that is, can actually help starve off depression.
While it's universally known that drinking in excess can affect your health, the old adage 'all in moderation' is actually true.
The study followed light to moderate drinkers of wine for up to seven years. All participants were between 55 and 80. Over the course of the research, both the physical and mental health of the participants was regularly checked.
Those who drank moderately seemed to have the best mental health scores compared to those who drank very little wine.
The study was published in the online journal BMC medicine on August 30th.

Many of us enjoy a relaxing glass of wine after a stressful day
"If you are not a drinker, please don't start drinking," said Miguel Martinez-Gonzalez, chair of the department of preventive medicine and public health at the University of Navarra.
"If you drink alcohol, please keep it in the range of one or less drinks a day and consider drinking wine instead of other alcoholic beverages."
There are critics who are not inclined to believe in the study’s findings saying that wine drinkers may be happy due to other factors such as happy marriages or fun social lives.
It seems the jury is out on this one but if research shows wine might be good for us, we’re not about to complain!
