A new HPV vaccine could reportedly protect against 90% of cervical cancers.
The vaccine, which protects against nine common strains of the human papilloma virus (HPV) has been proven to be quite effective in a study of 14,000 women.
According to the Mail Online, the vaccine could reportedly prevent 90% of cervical cancers.
The current vaccine protects against two of the most common strains associated with the cancer along with two further strains which are known to be a cause of genital warts.
According to reports, the new vaccine covers these four strains along with five additional ones.
The research, which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine, was carried out on women aged between 16 and 26, who were monitored for up to four and a half years.
It has been reported that longer studies including other age groups will now be required.
