Period cramps can be ‘as bad as having a heart attack’ and yes, WE KNOW

We're not being dramatic

Olivia Hayes

Finally, someone said it.

Periods are crap. They make us bloated. They cause our skin to break out. They make us moody… and not to mention, they make us really, really sore.

Many of us have adapted to our period pains and know exactly how to settle them whenever they arrive.

However, sometimes we’re caught off guard (thanks Mother Nature), and a cramp will make us squirm like there are 50 prods poking into our vaginas. Lovely.

If you’ve ever experienced tough period cramps before and cried out in agony, you might have been told *cough* by someone who has never experienced a period before *cough* that you’re being dramatic. That the pain can’t be that bad. That you’re oversharing.

Well, next time anyone utters any of those words to you, show them this article, because it explains how period cramps can be just as bad as a heart attack.

John Guillebaud, professor of reproductive health at University College London, revealed that research shows period pain can be as “bad as having a heart attack”.

He said: “Men don’t get it and it hasn’t been given the centrality it should have. I do believe it’s something that should be taken care of, like anything else in medicine.”

We’re glad someone finally acknowledged that we go through a great deal of pain…
