Study shows that a lot of us drink way more when we’re at home

Olivia Hayes

How often do you drink at home?

Whether it’s a glass of wine, a bottle of bear or your pour yourself a little whiskey, a lot of us have often drank at home.

It could be bad for us, however, as new research has found that we often tend to drink more when we’re sitting on the couch because we don’t know what’s a proper measure.

Drinkaware Index research found just 13 per cent of us keep a record of how much we’re drinking in a bid to cut back.

Drinkaware CEO Sheena Horgan said: “More often than not, we see people refer to units when they actually mean standard drinks.

“Considering the low numbers of people who keep track of what they drink, this is perhaps unsurprising.”

“With drink-driving arrests steadily increasing this year, knowing the correct information about standard drinks has never been more important.”

In fairness, whenever we drink at home, we’re pouring it free hand so we really don’t have a clue how much is going in there.

And with 72 percent of all drinking now taking place in the home, maybe it’s time we try to cut down a little.
