Take a break, take a...
Forget about the genie in a bottle, confectionary giants Nestlé are developing exercise in a bottle and the sheer thought of it has us working up a sweat.
The company are in the process of creating a drink that speeds up the metabolism and burns fat.
According to Bloomberg.com, eight Nestlé scientists are currently ‘tucked away’ working on a product that will replicate an enzyme AMPK that regulate the body’s metabolism.
The makers behind KitKat are promising that we take a break from exercise stating in the science journal Chemistry & Biology, which was released in July, that they have identified how the enzyme is stimulated by a compound called C13.
Nestle food scientist Kei Sakamoto said: “The enzyme can help people who can’t tolerate or continue rigorous exercise. Instead of 20 minutes of jogging or 40 minutes of cycling, it may help boost metabolism with moderate exercise like brisk walking. They’d get similar effects with less strain”.
Don’t go quitting your exercise regime just yet, as Kei explained that the product is a long way from completion and testing on animals will not begin for several years.
The company’s shares have increased by 0.3 per cent since the news was released.
Kei, who leads the research on diabetes and circadian rhythms at Nestlé, also explained the aim is to develop a nutritional product that can be consumed by people that are less mobile due to old age, obesity or diabetes.
