Spotlight On: Seven Mistakes You’re Probably Making In Bed

We answer all of the questions that you are too afraid to ask.

Over the last number of months, we’ve learned a thing or two about the wide range of contraceptives that are available on the market today.

Now, we are going to continue our focus on health by studying a wide range of topics relating to sex and sexual health.

Last week, we explained all the facts about IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) while this week, we are diving back under the covers to talk about sex.

We all like to think of ourselves as pretty decent between the sheets, but if you took a few minutes to ask your partner, would they say the same?

Most of us can be guilty of being a bit of a mé féiner under the covers, so we decided to break it down and find out if we are doing everything it takes to make bed time, sexy time.

Fail to prepare…

Prepare to fail. If you were doing an exam, you’d study beforehand. If you were cooking Christmas dinner for 20 people, you’d do a lot of prep before the big day. Having a good time in bed with your partner is no different – put in the work beforehand.

Start by dropping some compliments during the day, a sneaky kiss, a hint that you can’t wait until you are alone together. This boosts anticipation and is ultimately, a great kind of foreplay.

Speaking of which…

Foreplay is key for women, and if your partner is too interested in the main event, then make sure to let him know exactly what you need. Don’t be afraid to speak up or even his guide his hand to where you need it to go. It will work out better for you both – believe us.

And remember, he’s not a mind reader.

Get creative

Whether you’re with a new partner or you’ve been together a long time, it can be difficult to be creative in the bedroom – be it as a result of shyness or the fact that you’re stuck in a routine.

A new partner is the perfect excuse to try out new positions and mix things up, while this will also help to spice up your relationship if you’ve been together for longer. Don’t be afraid to take control in the bedroom – he’ll love it – and you’ll have a lot of fun working out new ways to make these changes work to your advantage and bring you closer together as a couple.

Feeling comfortable?

We know how amazing it can be to come home after a day’s work and just crawl into your pyjamas or tracksuit bottoms. While you may be comfy, it doesn’t exactly get you in the mood for loving. If you’re feeling in the mood, change into something you feel sexy and confident in and get ready to rock his world.

While we’re on the subject

There’s nothing sexier than confidence and being sure of yourself. Whatever your insecurities are, try to put them behind you. More likely than not, he doesn’t see any of the things you are worried about, so although your instinct may be to turn off the lights and dive straight under the covers, channel your inner goddess and bring your confidence to the fore.

Faking it ain’t making it

While you might think you’re doing both of you a favour by faking it, you are in fact doing the opposite. If things aren’t turning you on in the bedroom, let him know.

As we said previously, he’s not a mind reader – show him what you like and let the good times roll.

Finally, don’t expect him to do everything. Sex should see the two of you getting involved and not just lying back and letting him do all the work. Take an active role in sex and you’ll enjoy it a lot more.

The way he kisses you: The kiss is probably one of the easiest ways to decipher what your man will be like when it comes to sex. If he’s a good kisser, he’ll be passionate and romantic in bed. If he cups your face in his hands, it’s a sign that he wants you to reciprocate his moves. Remember: kisses are important. If his smooch leaves you weak at the knees then you’re onto a winner in the bedroom stakes.

As always, if you have any queries or concerns about sex, make an appointment to see your GP.
