Spotlight On: The Best Ways To Get In The Mood For Sex

Fancy some sexy time under the covers?

Her

Over the last number of months, we’ve learned a thing or two about the wide range of contraceptives that are available on the market today.

Now, we are going to continue our focus on health by studying a wide range of topics relating to sex and sexual health.

Last week, we looked at what happens if you have had an abnormal smear test result, this week we will be looking at getting your sex life back in gear with some sexy aphrodisiacs.

There are a number of different reasons why you might not be in the mood for sex from pressure at work, stress at home, kids to bring to and fro and other areas of your life pushing and pulling at you.

However, if you get some small things right, you’d be surprised just how quickly you’ll be in the mood to hop under the covers and from the best aphrodisiac foods to nice lingerie you won’t go too wrong.

Starting with food, remember that the food that you put into your body can have a big impact on your sex life as different foods affect your energy, stress levels and hormones.

The Magic As

Although a number of different foods are rumoured to be aphrodisiacs, there are a few that begin with ‘A’ that you should consider adding into your diet. These are:

Asparagus: Which is said to boost histamine production (to help reach orgasm).

Almonds: The smell of which is said to arouse women and although we’re not sure of that one, they do produce a lot of Vitamin E, magnesium and fibre.

Avocado: Associated with sex for many centuries now, an avocado is full of vitamin B6, potassium and folic acid.

1. During the time of the Aztecs, virgins weren’t allowed to eat/hold/have any contact with avocados. Why? Well avocados were considered to be so sexually powerful, they assumed that it was best to keep all the ‘pure’ women and men away from them.

Figs

Another fruit that has been linked with sexuality for many years, in times past figs were seen as sacred symbols of love and fertility.

Bananas

Yes, their shape automatically puts sexy time in mind, but thanks to bananas being rich with magnesium, B vitamins and potassium along with other enzymes, bananas are also said to help the male libido.

Chocolate Lover

Hailed as the number one of all aphrodisiacs, pure chocolate has plenty of compounds and chemicals that help to release dopamine in the pleasure center of the brain. As if we needed another excuse to eat more?!

Strawberries

We’re not sure about this one but hey – who doesn’t love being fed strawberries? Preferably if they are covered in chocolate and have a side of ice-cream. Winning all round here people.

Ditch: Nonfat strawberry yoghurt For: Nonfat Greek yoghurt with fresh strawberries Why? Greek yoghurt has almost twice as much protein than a traditional yoghurt. The fresh strawberries will also have less sugar.

Oysters

Perhaps one of the best-known aphrodisiacs, oysters are reputed to increase sexual desire due to the high level of zinc that they contain. We still haven’t braved this one yet though.

Ooh, honey honey

Honey is said to be a fantastic source of minerals that help to boost the female sex organ and enhance testosterone levels. What are you waiting for?

Match it up

Moving away from food, some small things to make yourself get in the mood include something as simple as wearing (slinky) matching underwear under your clothes – and don’t forget to throw on some high heels and march that man into your bed!

Work it out

Exercise is another thing that is proven to help increase your sex drive and not just because you are fitter.

In fact, research has shown that women in particular will feel better about their bodies with regular exercise and will be more likely to engage in sexy time then their counterparts who stay curled up on the couch.

Sorry ladies but it’s time to dust off the runners!
