For most women, there’s usually some aspect of their body that they’re not 100% comfortable with…
While some women might wish to shift a few pounds, or smooth out their complexion, others might feel like going under the knife is their best chance of attaining their perfect figure.
While some women unhappy with their bust might go under the knife, new research has proven that the decision to opt for cosmetic surgery might not be the safest option mentally in your quest for body confidence.
According to studies published in the Annals of Plastic Surgery, women who get cosmetic implants end up roughly three times more likely to die by suicide 10 years after surgery.
They are also more likely to die from alcohol, drug dependence or abuse.
The team of researchers followed 3,527 Swedish women with breast implants for an average of nearly 19 years, and used the mental and physical health updates to their counterparts who had not undergone the procedure.
The research concludes that although they still need to fully investigate the health implications of cosmetic surgery, surgeons should be now screening potential patients for suicide risk.
They have also called for stricter guidelines in monitoring past patients, finding that the risk of suicide amongst breast implantees increase after 10 years of surgery.
While each woman has the right to determine the path of her own body, surgery might not always be the safest, most controlled option to manage your expectations and wishes.
