The “Miracle” Patch: The Latest Extreme (And Very Painful) Diet Fad

It's dubbed the "miracle patch", but we don't know how much of a miracle something like this is.

A plastic patch which makes it more than difficult to eat is the latest extreme in weight loss methods.

The patch is secured to the tongue with six stitches, the Daily Mail reports, making eating solid food so painful that users are forced to stick to a liquid-only diet.

The patch can reportedly help you lose up to 30 pounds in one month, but is excruciatingly painful to wear.

Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Nikolas Chugay is the brain-child behind the idea and launched it in 2009.

The doctor's website warns users that they may experience swelling of the tongue and difficulty with speech after getting the patch. Some patients have also had trouble sleeping and moving their tongue after the treatment.

Patients wear the patch for up to one month, any more and it can become incorporated into the tongue's tissue.

There is an "easy to follow" liquid diet of 800 calories a day provided with the treatment to "maximise weight loss results".
