We are superstitious beings. Don’t dare walk under ladders or on cracked pavements, and be sure to bless yourself when you pass a chapel. We’ve grown up hearing that a glass of flat lemonade and a good sleep cures all ailments, and a wee night cap before bed will help you sleep. Then there are those food myths…
Over the years, the majority of us women have become more and more conscious of what we put in our cake holes. A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips and all that… Here are the truths behind some of our common food misconceptions.
1 - Eggs will increase your cholesterol and kill you in the end.

Eggs are a beneficial source of healthy fat and very few foods have as a diverse a nutrient make as the humble egg. Containing numerous vitamins, including vitamin A, potassium and many B vitamins like folic acid and biotin, the egg is an excellent source of protein. Rocky swore by them.
2 - Chocolate causes acne.
![]()
This has been our favourite myth to bust. Chocolate does not cause acne (not that any of us have steered clear away from it) Hallelujah. Studies show that there is no connection between chocolate and problematic skin. In fact chocolate with high coaco content is good for you. It’s also great for heartbreak, so we hear.
3 - Eat away at the 'good fats' all you want.
![]()
Every body requires fat to function and without the healthy fats our brains wouldn’t function properly, however one can over do it. Key thing to remember here gals is, everything in moderation.
4 - If it's brown then it's grand.
Careful now. When purchasing bread, be aware that a darker colour of loaf does not always mean that it’s good for you. Some brown breads contain caramel colouring and very little whole wheat. Look out for the words ‘whole grain or ‘100% whole wheat.’
5 - Need some Vitamin C? Eat an orange.

Contrary to popular belief, oranges are not the best course of vitamin C. A higher content of this simple immune booster is found in broccoli, strawberries, red bell peppers and brussel sprouts.
Don’t worry ladies; we’ll keep you right.
