This simple trick will tell you if you really need to drink more water

Are you drinking enough?

Trine Jensen-Burke

We all know we should be sipping water throughout the day to stay hydrated, and that not getting enough H2O can make us feel sluggish, tired and even nauseous.

To find out if you are actually drinking enough, we have all heard how you can check the colour of your pee – as in, if it is pale and almost transparent, you can relax, but if it is dark in colour and smells pretty urine-y, you probably need to up your water intake immediately.

Well, you could run to the bathroom and do all that, obvs, but did you know there is also a much faster (and more subtle) way of checking if you are dehydrated enough?

Here’s the deal:

Using your thumb and index finger of one hand, pinch the skin on the back of your other hand. If it bounces back immediately, you’re hydrated (yeah!), but if it takes a few seconds to return to normal, you better start looking for the nearest water cooler.

Why does this work, you ask? Well, according to the experts, your skin’s ability to change shape and go back to its regular state (known as “turgor”) is directly related to how hydrated you are. As in, the more elastic your skin, the better.

Easy peasy!
