As you’re aware, Wellfest is VERY near and we’re super hyped.

On Saturday May 12 and Sunday May 13 Ireland’s largest health, fitness and wellness festival – Wellfest – will take place at the Royal Hosptital Kilmainham.

But before we get our yoga pants on and trek over to Kilmainham for a superb weekend of everything ‘feel good,’ KBC Bank Ireland and Wellfest have decided to piece together a 30-Day wellness programme led by performance psychologist Gerry Hussey, best-selling cookery author Roz Purcell, and Dublin GAA player and fitness entrepreneur Philly McMahon.

Each day brings with it a whole new positive challenge for us to try and implement into our lifestyle this month, and hopefully, hold on to it. With tomorrow being Day 16, it’s time for Philly’s ‘Power of Choice’ challenge.

There are times throughout the year when we’ll be extremely dissatisfied with ourselves or our lifestyle (think after Christmas when all we’ve done is eat our weight in giant winter feasts). Or right before our holidays, when we wish we had made just a little bit more effort to be healthy in the months before hand, then we might feel beach ready. And even if we did join a gym, there’s a good chance we fell off the wagon somewhere along the way, which Philly refers to as our ‘resistance.’

If you’re dissatisfied, and want to achieve your fitness goal, you’ll still hit resistance (the urge to stop/give up), but when you do, you must say, ‘NO, I’m connected to my goal emotionally and this better option leads to results.’

The power of choice can be used in all aspects of life. “We’ve built up this negative subconscious,” throughout life says Philly, “We need to reinforce positivity, and change our narrative, because our thoughts and feelings create our actions.”

“If you want to get fitter, healthier, it’s all about the power of choice  Say ‘How do I feel?’ If it’s negative, change it to a positive by using a trigger.”

“Say ‘Today I’m going to feel good.’ Understand that you have the ultimate power to change.”

So, the four steps in making this epic change happen involve the following:

1.  Assess Yourself

Assess yourself in the morning, at lunch, in the evening, at night time. Just take a moment to step back, relax and realise what you did today, how you’re day went and how you’re feeling.

2. Positivity

We’re not saying fake it, but write down even one positive thing that happened to you today, however small.

3. Practice Gratitude

Write down three things that you’re grateful for, each and every night before you go to bed. It could mean being grateful for having a roof over your head, getting your favourite sandwich today or having a great friend.

4. Practice Kindness

Do one kind thing for someone everyday. Remember, what goes around comes around. And if that’s not enough, you’ll feel better for

And there you have it. Do the above and already you’re making tracks! Remember too, that all participants who take part in the Wellgood 30-Day Challenge will be in with a chance to nab tickets to this year’s Wellfest too!

Everyone who signs up to the KBC Wellfest 30-Day Challenge is encouraged to share their journey on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter using the hashtag #WellGood. Using this hashtag means you also might be the lucky winner of two Wellfest tickets (two pairs will be won each week!). Everyone who subscribes to the programme will get €5 off their weekend ticket to WellFest 2018 too!
