We’ve been searching for the secret elixir to a long life for a very long time…
We’ll give ourselves credit, we did find some, enough to make an A-Z guide, but one lady has proved hers has worked.
Mary Snelling has just celebrated her 107th birthday and swears the secret to long life is simple.
The extraordinary woman was born on December 1th, 1905, but she looks younger than ever in the pictures of her big day.
Her secret? Just begin the day by eating an apple.
The elixir could certainly work as her sister Keeny lived to the ripe old age of 102 and swore by the same secrets.
Mrs Snelling said the key to a long, healthy life was to have a good diet, lots of exercise and avoid smoking.
“I don't eat fat from meat, I always make sure I cut it off and I like to start my day with an apple,” Mrs Snelling said.
“I don't drink much, just occasionally with friends and I have never smoked. I always said I work too hard for my money to see it go up in smoke. We used to walk a lot with our mother so that probably helped.”
Mary celebrated the big day with a card from the Queen of England, a giant cake and a visit from her nearest and dearest.
Mary said she has always been very close to her sisters, as neither of them married or had any children.
Mary’s husband died in 1950.
“I loved being married,” Mary said.
The couple did not have any children.
Mary has lived in a residential home since April.
What a woman…
