A 39-year-old Argentinean woman has died after injecting Vaseline into her breasts to make them larger.
Sonia Perex Llanzon, an amateur athlete, was admitted to Lucio Molas Hospital in Santa Rosa with breathing difficulties following a home breast augmentation procedure.
On March 6th, Sonia died from a fatal blood clot entering her lung caused by the petroleum jelly.
Julio Pla Cardenas, Chief of Surgery at the hospital explained: "In all my medical career, I've never seen a case like this. The human body has antibodies to remove bacteria and viruses, but it hasn't got any mechanisms against this type of product.”
Sonia’s 20-year-old son posted a message to his late Mum on his Facebook page, writing: "I will love you for ever. The 20 years I spent by your side were beautiful."
Previously doctor's have warned about the increasing amount of men injecting themselves with Vaseline in order enhance their penis size, which can cause tissue damage and erectile dysfunction.
Surgeon Julio added: "Other people using vaseline like this are putting themselves in danger."
