While it’s always tempting to reach for the nearest bag of crisps or leftover Easter Egg(s) to keep our hunger pangs at bay, having a nice variety of healthy snacks ideas can go a long way to banishing bad habits. Are we right?
Whether you’re looking for something sweet or savoury, we’ve put together ten healthy treats to satisfy those munchies.
1. Tomato and mozzarella
Mozzarella slices with tomatoes and rocket drizzled with olive oil is the perfect summer snack. Finish with a sprinkle of black pepper. Delicious.
2. Avocado on wholemeal toast
Drizzle your favourite toasted bread with a little bit of olive oil, and slice or mash avocado on top. Sprinkle with salt and pepper for flavour. Enjoy.
3. Strawberry smoothie
Pop one cup of frozen strawberries, one banana, one cup of skimmed milk and 8 -10 ice cubes in a blender. Blend, pour and sip.
4. Homemade baked sweet potato chips
Using a very sharp knife, thinly slice a sweet potato before lightly coating with olive oil and a sprinkle of salt. Bake in a single layer in the oven at 120 degrees celsius for a couple of hours until crisp. Make sure to flip the chips at the halfway point of cooking.
5. Skinny latte
If you’re just looking to quell your hunger, get yourself a decent cup of coffee. You’ll get you caffeine fix that’ll go a long way to keep you going until your next meal.
6. Almond butter and a wholegrain cracker
This is one of our favourites and only takes seconds to make. Simply spread almond butter on your favourite cracker or corn cake. A surprisingly satisfying savoury treat.
7. Rice cake topped with peanut butter and blueberries
If you’re looking for a variation on the above, try a rice or corn cake topped with peanut butter and blueberries.
8. Sliced melon wrapped in parma ham
This is the perfect treat to nibble on to satisfy a savoury or a sweet craving. And it only take a minute to throw together.
9. Raspberries and plain yoghurt
This sweet and savoury mix will keep you happy until you can sit down to a full meal. Pour two tablespoons of plain yoghurt into a bowl and top it off with your favourite chopped berries and a drizzle of honey.
10. Protein pancakes
Blend two egg whites, a banana and a cup of rolled oats to make your pancackes. Once your pancake is ready, top with peanut butter. So tasty.
