8 Things To Do In Dublin For The Easter Rising Commemorations

It’s going to be a big weekend in the capital this Easter with Rising Commemorations in full swing. We’ve put together a list of events that might be interesting to you if you’re around the capital this weekend.

March 26th Easter Saturday Remembrance Ceremony

There will be a wreath-laying ceremony in the Garden of Remembrance at noon, attended by President Michael D. Higgins.

March 27th Easter Sunday Parade

The Easter Rising parade with participants from the Defence forces will kick off from 10a.m with a member of the Irish Defence Forces reading the Proclamation on the steps of the GPO.

The Parade will start at Stephen’s Green at 10am, concluding at Bolton Street at 3pm.

Collins Barracks Exhibition – Proclaiming A Republic – The 1916 Rising

This exhibition at Ireland’s military museum will offer unique and never-before-seen insights into the lives of the rebels and you can find out more here.

RCSI Exhibition
The Royal College of Surgeons housed the rebels fighting under the command of Markievicz and Mallin and has a great exhibition entitled Surgeons and Insurgents that is well worth seeing.

Glasnevin Cemetery Exhibition and Wreath Laying Ceremony March 27th

This cemetery is where many Republican icons are buried, and a wreath-laying ceremony open to the public begins there at 9.30am.

1916 Pub Crawl

If you fancy a few drinks, there are several famous Dublin pubs associated with the Rising you can pop into, included The Swan,  The Old Stand, The Capstan Bar, The Cobblestone, The Confession Box, and The Gravediggers.

1916 Bus Tour

The 1916 Freedom tour sounds brilliant, with the guides dressing in period uniform in a military style tour truck, and bringing you to all the key areas of interest. Find out more here.
