7 things that will forever remind you of your summer in the Gaeltacht

Oh, the memories.

Brought to you by NEW CLUB ZERO SUPER SPLIT- Great Taste, Zero Sugar.

A summer spent in the Gaeltacht is practically a rite of passage for loads of Irish students.

Whether you went on a once-off trip or heading to Irish college was a regular thing, you’ll definitely recognise a few of the below.

The fear of your Bean an Tí

Nobody and I mean nobody messed with the Bean an Tí. When she said it was lights out it was lights out and when she put a plate of food down in front of you, you ate it no matter how gross it was. That didn’t stop you trying to sneak out, however…

Having to cycle everywhere

If your teach was a little bit outside the local town you had no choice but to cycle everywhere. It was the original BYOB.

BÉARLA!

If this wasn’t shouted at you at least twice a day then were you even at the Gaeltacht? The power-hungry cinnires were usually the worst culprits. They might have only been a few years older than you but there was no messing with them.

Rickety buses

That went ungodly speeds on the little back roads. You would be filled with excitement when they stopped outside your crush’s house.

Getting excited when the post came

You’ve never looked forward to a letter from home more, especially during the first week when you were feeling just a little bit homesick. You were always just a little bit jealous when the other girls got actual parcels, peak notions.

Any kind of ceilí music

Will bring you straight back to those very awkward days in the local town’s community centre or church hall. You were always completely petrified in case you were left standing there without a partner and the words ”Isteach dó trí, amach dó trí, isteach dó trí, amach dó trí” still haunt you to this day.

Everyone losing their minds when the sun shines

You would head straight to the beach with everyone from your teach for a big party and a few games. Nothing would beat going into the little corner shop to buy a few Super Splits on the way. While we can’t buy our favourite Super Splits anymore, Club Orange have just launched a brand new Club Zero Super Split drink, so we can relive our childhood just one more time. Oh, the memories.
