A 10-year old schoolgirl has been named one of the UK’s youngest undergraduates ever, after enrolling in a university maths degree.
Esther Okade from the West Midlands has signed up for the course in the Open University after spending years hounding her mother to allow her sign up.
Mother Efe told the Huffington Post:
"From the age of seven Esther has wanted to go to university. But I was afraid it was too soon. "She would say, 'Mum, when am I starting?', and go on and on and on.
"Finally, after three years she told me, 'Mum I think it is about time I started university now."
Esther applied for the course in August, and after a phone interview, an essay and a maths exam, she finally got the news she was waiting for in December - that she had been accepted onto the course.
Not only has Esther enrolled in the class three weeks now, she is already top of the class, scoring 100 per cent on a recent test.
And apparently, the brains run in the family, with Esther’s six-year old brother currently studying for his A-levels in maths.
Not surprisingly, Esther’s mum Efe said her smart daughter has big plans – aiming to be a millionaire:
"Esther talks about running her own bank one day. She has a lot of plans, and talks a lot about finances.
"She says she wants to be a millionaire."
Considering she’s already passed us out by at least 14 years, we don’t doubt that’s a serious reality…
