A Christmas Tree In Dublin Powered By Tweets? You’re Going To Want To See This!

We love this idea

Her

Over the past few weeks we have seen towns and villages around Ireland being lit up by beautiful Christmas trees, and we’ve got to say our little island is beginning to look very festive indeed. It’s exactly two weeks to the big day, people!

This year SPAR has taken a very innovative approach to its decorations by setting up a giant ‘Twitter Christmas Tree’ above its store in the centre of Ranelagh in Dublin. The whopping 1,600 festive bulbs on the tree will be ‘powered’ by tweets – every time someone tweets using the hashtag #UnderTheTree, another light on the tree comes to life. Cool idea, right?

Our favourite part about this is that every #UnderTheTree tweet also means a donation to The National Children’s Hospital Tallaght. So not only will each #UnderTheTree tweet bring SPAR closer to a fully lit Christmas tree, they will also contribute to a €20,000 donation to The National Children’s Hospital. Once the tree is fully lit, SPAR will make the donation, which will be used for essential facility upgrades and equipment in the hospital.

We’ve got until 30 December to get the tree fully lit and that important donation in the bag for The National Children’s Hospital, so make sure to get tweeting #UnderTheTree! Happy Christmas!
