A new study shows that 1-in-6 mobile phone devices have traces of fecal matter on them. Yes, you could literally be a potty mouth and you don't even know it.
We don't mean to cause any more disgust, but if it’s on your phone, it's probably on your hands too...
Researchers from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and Queen Mary, University of London, published their findings after analysing over 780 swab samples, 390 from mobile phones and 390 from the hands that used them. The group concluded with some pretty crappy results.
The study, which was carried out in 12 cities across the U.K., found that 16% of both hands and phones were contaminated with E. coli, the potentially illness-causing bacteria that is fecal in origin.
Researchers have concluded that the likely reason for this is simple, people are not washing their hands after using the toilet. Yes folks, they have also discovered who are the main culprits for neglecting the hygiene common practice.
Dr. Val Curtis involved in the research said: “In previous studies, we found that men’s hands were more contaminated than women’s, and also that men wash hands less often than women in public restrooms.”
Overall statistics show that 92% of hands and 82% of phones showed some type of bacterial contamination.
Approximately one third of hands and a quarter of phones contained
Staphylococcus aureus, a common bacteria that live on skin but can cause illness if they enter the bloodstream.
We're never going to borrow a phone ever again.
