weather warning

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any colder.

A new Status Yellow warning has been issued and this one impacts the entire country as it’s set to get very cold indeed from 8 pm.

Although this morning was far from warm, tonight will be much worse with Met Éireann expecting temperatures to drop as low as -4 degrees Celsius.

As you’ll see from the national forecaster’s website, this warning was just issued and it’s in place from:

Monday 11 December 2017 20:00 to Tuesday 12 December 2017 10:00.

Widespread severe frost is expected to return overnight with icy patches in many places. Drivers and commuters are urged to take extra care and remain vigilant on account of this warning.

The Road Safety Authority has issued a warning regarding black ice.

“If you encounter icy roads, remember to slow down, avoid heavy braking and use all controls very delicately. Beware of black ice!”

At the moment, the outlook for tomorrow is good with conditions expected to improve somewhat. Temperatures are set to rise slightly, with highs of four to eight degrees Celsius.

“Frost will clear tomorrow morning and cloud will increase with a band of rain pushing east across the country during the day. The rain may be of sleet and snow over high ground – especially in the north”.

As previously mentioned, this warning applies to the entire country and it’s important to be aware of the potential dangers involved with this intense period of cold weather.

Be careful out there folks.
